Port Stanley Harbour, 1908

A view of Port Stanley’s harbour in 1908. The white building in the
centre of the photograph was Port Stanley’s town hall. The postcard
colourists may have got things a bit wrong. Other postcards show this as
a building built of sand coloured brick. The steam tug on the right and
the two masted sailing vessels behind it are of interest. Two masted
gaff rigged sailing vessels, often crewed by two men and a boy, were a
common conveyance for grain and coal on Lake Erie in the early years of
the 20th century.
