Main Beach with Old Lighthouse

This postcard bears a postmark of August 19, 1907 and another copy has a
postmark of 1908. The ship which is shown leaving the harbour may well have
been the ill-fated Marquette and Bessemer No. 2 which carried coal
across Lake Erie. One of the most interesting aspects of this postcard
is the lighthouse which we think stood just to the east of the coal
ferry docking slip (the present boat launching slip). Note the
“parasols” carried by the ladies in long dresses strolling on the sand.
