Lighthouse 1

Very little is known about this lighthouse, which obviously is not located on the site of the current lighthouse in Port Stanley. We do not know when it was built, but this postcard bears a date of 1909. A nautical chart published by the Canadian Hydrographic Service in 1909 shows a 20-foot-high flashing green light on the east side of the railway ferry slip which is the location of the current boat launch. This lighthouse is probably that shown on the chart as it sat between the harbor and the railway ferry slip. It seems likely that this is the light shown on that chart, realizing that the ferry slip was immediately west of the main harbour, so that this light would have been between the main harbour and the railway ferry slip.
