Hillcrest

This 1912 postcard is labeled, “Hill Crest, Port Stanley, Ontario”. Hillcrest, known in the 19th century as Liberty Hill, is the name given to the bluff immediately to the east of the Port Stanley Harbour. Port Stanley’s founding father, John Bostwick, built his home here. It is believed that this building was later transformed into the Hillcrest Inn and operated as a hotel for many years. The photograph on this card would have been taken looking south. Most of the other postcards which show the Hillcrest Inn were taken looking north.
