Break-Water, Port Stanley, Ont., Canada

The postmark on this card is September 1,1911. In 1905 the St. Thomas Evening Journal refers to a new breakwater which was to be built that winter in Port Stanley. It seems likely that it was the breakwater which is shown on the postcard. The breakwater, usually referred to as the pier, is still in place. We have to admit to being totally baffled by the large red building on the shore to the west of this pier. It is a building which would have been far to the west of subsequent buildings on what came to be known as Port Stanley’s Amusement Beach. This postcard was probably hand coloured since there is a black and white and white version showing an identical view but published by a different company.
