Port Stanley’s Main Intersection (2)

The photograph on this postcard was taken from Port
Stanley’s main intersection, looking north. There is no postmark to give
us a precise date, but the streetcar shown here operated from 1909 to 1918. It
was operated by the Southwest Traction Line which was separate
from the London and Port Stanley Railway. It had tracks running from
Port Stanley to St. Thomas and in its busiest years it carried more than
700,000 passengers. Note the lack of motor cars on the streets, and the
horse drawn wagon starting up the Joseph Street hill.
