Orchard Beach (1)

This postcard shows what is perhaps the earliest photograph available of
the area east of Port Stanley known as Orchard Beach. The postmark is
somewhat indistinct but appears to be 1914. For many years this was
primarily a summer cottage area. The large white summer cottage shown on
the right side of the postcard can still be recognized today, although
it is now situated adjacent to the road on the left of the photograph
which is now known as Harrison Place. The building just behind it in
this photograph was built by the Darch family of London. A descendent of
the family (Craig Cole) still lives on the property today and he is the
prime author of most of the comments on this section of our website. (He notes: My
mother was Alice Darch and I spent many happy summers on Orchard Beach).
