Main Intersection (1)

There is no date on this postcard but judging by the
appearance of the car heading south as it approaches what is today Port
Stanley’s main intersection, the photograph must have been taken in the
early years of the last century. Jack Brumpton, a long time Port Stanley
resident was asked what he remembered about this intersection. He
mentioned a drugstore on the corner, Fewing’s shoe store and a hardware
store. A trough for horses situated at the right side of this photograph in
front of a building which was once the Bank of Commerce was installed in
1916 by the Elgin Humane Society. Although no longer used to water horses, it is still present at
the corner of Colborne, Joseph, Bridge and Main streets.
