Dance Pavilion (1)

There are numerous different postcards which show the London and
Port Stanley Dance Pavilion. It was built by the L&PS Railway Commission and opened its
doors on July 29,1926. On opening night over 5000 people crowded into the pavilion to dance to
the music of the Vincent Lopez Orchestra. Many of our viewers will remember this as the
Stork Club, a name which it was given in the l950s.The pavilion had an enormous maple dance
floor which at one time was said to be the largest in Canada, a claim which had earlier
been made by Port Stanley’s Stanley Beach Casino, at the other end of the main beach.
