Christ Church (1)

This postcard bears a postmark of May 26,1911 and shows Port
Stanley’s Anglican Church which bears the name of Christ Church. The
church still stands on the same site today, little
changed from the way it looked when it was built in 1845. It stands on
land donated in 1826 by John Bostwick, Port Stanley’s founding father,
who was a staunch member of what was then known in Canada as the Church
of England. His father, Gideon Bostwick, was a minister of the Episcopal
Church in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. John Bostwick is buried in
the churchyard of the Port Stanley church.
