June Heritage Day in Port Stanley

Heritage Port Stanley members, dressed in historical attire, welcomed visitors at key locations around the village. They shared local stories and historical facts, bringing Port Stanley’s rich past to life for the community.

  • Windjammer (Original Sam Shepherd’s Home)
    • Hosted by Barbara and Laurie
    • Had approx. 25 tour participants
    • Discussions on the Shepherd family history and current services
    • Covered porch provided shelter from rain
  • Telegraph House
    • Managed by Dave Russell
    • Visitors came after the rain stopped
    • Engaged college students from Windsor who showed interest in local history
  • Pier & Lighthouse Interpretation
    • Visitors toured the lighthouse and learned about earlier lighthouses
    • Nora encouraged taking group photos at each interpretation site for the website
  • Bridge & Main Streets
    • Summer student “Drake” dressed in military costume
    • Distributed flyers with 8 heritage locations to encourage exploration
  • Morrow House on Colborne Street
    • Sally Martyn planned to be stationed here
