Port Stanley’s Third School

This postcard was written on October 18, 1912, four years after the school was built. It was Port Stanley’s third school, with two classrooms and a library downstairs and two classrooms and the principal’s office upstairs. When the school opened Mr. Catherwood was the principal, with Miss Dora Dredge and Miss Agnes Hepburn as assistants. Our Heritage Port members who attended this school say that the entrance to the school shown in this photograph was the boy’s entrance. When the building was demolished in 1972 the stone plaque over the entrance was salvaged and relocated to a site in front of the present (fourth) school. The plaque reads, “Port Stanley Public School. A.D. 1908.
